In the aftermath of the 2000 presidential election,
we tried to clear our reeling heads and hearts and focus on our next
course of action. It seemed to us that there were really only three
from which we could choose.
We could flee the country. Take up residence somewhere that better
exemplified our perspectives. Somewhere that worked towards peace,
equality, and social justice for all people within our global nation.
We could settle into the rhythms of our lives. Maybe buy a larger
TV, see more movies. In essence, wait it out. I mean, four years is
only four years. How much harm could be perpetrated by such a small
group of people in such a short period of time?
We opted for the third approach. We wrote some letters, marched in
a few anti war demonstrations, verbalized our disappointment to any
one who would listen…
